When finalising mixes I hear a crackling sound during playback. I assume that this is due to the processor being over worked with the 20-30 tracks of audio and midi data and plug ins so I wondered if anyone could advise how I could stop this crackling?
Hey David i followed the current thread recently. But i have one issue that is a noise is coming while playback inside logic even if there is blank. I have increased my buffer size to max. So what could possibly be the problem since it's the first time I'm hearing it. Thanks in advance!!
My Presonus Audiobox USB96 has the same problem on an HP EliteBook. I bought this so I could be mobile and record anywhere at anytime. So, I was definitely disappointed when I heard the cracking and popping coming out of the headphones and main speakers or anything that I connected the output to.What I did to resolve the issue: I first attempted to simply lower the send volume coming from the source from 100 to 90. This helped, but ultimately there was still a much less irritating popping and crackling sound.What seems to have resolved the issue (On Windows 10) was to enable "Enhancements" to "Speaker Properties" - yes, it took enabling all 3 "Bass Boost", "Virtual Sound", and "Loudness Equalization", as shown in this picture:
I recently bought the Audiobox USB 96 (after Presonus made my previously excellent Firestudio Project redundant on latest macOS) and I've experienced the same problem: crackling and popping occurs on playback of certain files or tracks with higher recording levels (directly off my computer or even on YouTube).
A long time after creation of this post, but also I must concur. And yes, Presonus also told me 'they didn't know of this issue'. When it's just too hard to believe that. When you check here, and Google, there are tons of similar compaints.I even have the issue, which is specifically noticeable on headphones that the Audiobox is contantly popping and crackling, even when sound is not playing, but when there are audioapplications switching. For example, when I see my desktop and open up Chrome, I immediatly get a pop or crackle. So far I found out: (All issues caused by the Audiobox)- Cracks and pops always when changing application. As if the Audiobox frees himself from slumber everytime a sounds might going to play. - Reconnecting the Audiobox with USB gives a hellish scream sound. - There is NO difference using all kinds of different sample rates or block sizes.- It does NOT like Windows having the volume on 100. (Which is the standard output)- It does equally NOT like USB 3.0, even though USB 3.0 should be backwards compatible. USB 2.0 doesn't solve any issues either.- Trying out power issues, by using external powered (2.0) USB hubs, instead of using the PC bus powered USB is NOT helping.- Another PC, or laptop same issues.PreSonus could probably suggest to send it in for repair. But I've also read plenty of others where any repaired or replaced just have the same issues. And since I own the 25th Anniversary edition, it should basically mean all the technical issues and bugs should been removed. Especially the technical ones. I think they made this box TOO sensitive, and they miss out a few filters to protect signals. It's a design flaw.So it's very simple for me. This one goes into the garbage bin and I am going to search for another interface. I love Presonus for Studio One, but I am not going to buy hardware from them again. Not with that quality, and not with that customer service.
Make sure your buffer is not too low. I get crackling sometimes if I set to 64 so I usually just use 128 or if 64 is what floats your boat, then make sure you are not running a mix that has too many plugins. You might want to save your mix and then open up a new mix with no plugins and see if that ameliorates the problem.
Thanks for the help! That seems to have done the trick. I am rather disappointed, however, that I'm going to have to run logic in low res now but as long as I can record it should be fine for the moment. Definitely going to write apple about this...

Kontakt slows down playin my piano and the message is: Error Whiile trying Sync Audio and MIDI - SAMPLE RATE 46205 recognized. Check conflict between Logic Pro X and external device. What the hell it is? My interface is Fireface 802 but I am sure it is all about VEP. Pleaes help I cannot work. It happens only when I press play or try to record music. VEP is the culprit. What can I do / Please it is urgent. No idea - in Logic Audio even does not go to half meter up, DIsk IO is not high (there are just 2 tracks playing) but noises crackles, all frustrating things because of the VEP. What aslo happened to me, sometimes on the VEP (why?) Kontakt told me about changing sample rate. But anyway HOW CAN I GET UP?
What is your VEPro plugin in Logic set to for its buffer? I have had trouble when I set mine below 2 (i.e. crackling, and "distortion" in playback). I would suggest that the ideal settings are 256 buffer size for your host (Logic), and a 2 buffer for the VEPro plugin.

I have already gave a lot of details and comparison with VE Pro 5, which has much betterplayback performance than VE Pro 7.I suppose VE Pro 7 has some SSD / HDD reading problems, which don't exist. I've noticed very highSSD reading loading (Samsung Pro 960 NVMe). Often the reading peaks reach 100%. And Kontakt disc reading up to 100% (in red). I just bought one and Im experiencing the same issue, ableton, medium complex project with 8 tracks, some audio some vsti's and I can't get below 128 samples at 44100khz. I bought it just because the reviews for RME said that the drivers where the best, but its all the same BS, coming from Focusrite 6i6 the performance is the same... oh I forgot, can't get past 40% cpu load and the thing just stops responding. My specs are amd fx9590, 32gb 1600, two ssd one for the system/programs and one for the samples, libraries and cache, windows 10 x64, ableton 9.5. Any help would be much appreciated.
By pure occasion I upgraded to the "A" version of the same board (the successor which brought USB3 and Sata6).With the same BIOS settings like on the old board and the same windows installation the values went down to 2µs at minimum and with averages of between 5 - 20 µs on a not loaded system.
